A NASA scientist says a Chinese satellite flashed previously unidentified lights over Hawaii last month.

The green lights are the latest in a string of mysterious objects in the sky.
A week after the incident, experts at the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), which co-owns the camera, claimed on Twitter that the green light originated from radar on the NASA satellite ICESat-2. But a week later, NAOJ revised its theory, saying that based on the trajectory, it was unlikely the lights were coming from NASA’s satellite after all.
The Daqi-1 was launched in April. The satellite has LIDAR (laser imaging, detection, and ranging) for detecting atmospheric aerosols and carbon dioxide. Daqi-1 also measures nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, ozone, and fine particle pollution. Lidar uses laser beams for mapping, and it’s believed that these lasers illuminated the sky over Hawaii in January.
The Daqi-1 isn’t the only satellite using LIDAR to monitor Earth. The Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation (CALIPSO) has been orbiting for more than 15 years. The CALIPSO’s High Spectral Resolution Lidar (HSRL) provided the first global observations of the North Atlantic phytoplankton bloom.
Early NASA experiments proved the value of orbiting LIDAR. For example, the LITE (Lidar In-Space Technology Experiment) was used in 1994 as the first LIDAR system for atmospheric studies from space. The instrument was positioned in the payload bay of Space Shuttle Discovery, measured Earth’s cloud cover, and tracked various particles in the atmosphere.

LIDAR TO PREDICT HIGH ENERGY LASER WEAPON EFFECTIVENESS
Thus the Navy seeks new capability to dynamically characterize the maritime atmosphere in order to predict laser weapon effectiveness.
Atmospheric attenuation data at the wavelength of the weapon can be used to generate a “Laser Effectiveness Range” so a ship’s tactical team can determine whether the LWS is an appropriate weapon choice for a given threat.
Systems that can characterize the atmosphere continuously, providing data for a hemisphere centered on the vessel, and that also can operate on-demand, will provide the greatest flexibility.
We are developing an advanced, highly compact lidar capable of continuous, automated mapping of atmospheric extinction. Lidar is a well-developed and successful remote sensing technique for monitoring aerosols in the lower atmosphere.

Laser (COIL), which was invented at Phillips Lab in 1977. The laser fuel consists of the same chemicals found in hair bleach and Drano (hydrogen peroxide and potassium hydroxide) which are then combined with chlorine gas and water. The laser operates at an infrared wavelength of 1.315 microns, which is invisible to the eye. By recycling chemicals, building with plastics and using a unique cooling process, the COIL team was able to make the laser lighter and more efficient while, at the same time, increasing its power by 400 percent in five years. The flight-weighted ABL module is similar in performance and power levels to the multi-hundred kilowatt class COIL Baseline Demonstration Laser (BDL-2) module demonstrated by TRW.

In these situations, an ATL (Airborne Tactical Laser) could have surprising effect.
It could disable communications lines, disable radio and TV broadcast antennas, disable satellite or radar dishes, break electrical power lines and transformers, disable individual vehicles, and create various forms of distractions by setting small fires.
These actions would serve to isolate and control hostile individuals and groups without casualties and with minimal, repairable damage.
The laser beam delivers its energy to a relatively small spot on the target - from a few inches in diameter to a few feet, depending on the range.
The incident intensity is sufficient (similar to a welding torch) to melt steel, even if the surface is shiny. Typical melt-through times for missile bodies are about 10 seconds.
But if the heated area is under stress from aerodynamic or static pressure loads, catastrophic failure can occur even sooner. Laser weapons don't deliver as much "killing power" as guns or missiles, but they are effective against many targets. And, precision delivery makes up for limited delivered power.

Thanks for the info. Here is more evidence that the tech exists for all those who want to call this a natural event.
